One of the most frequently asked questions about DR CBD Rx is ‘will it get me high’ and the answer is simple – no. The element of the cannabis plant that creates euphoric feeling or ‘high’ is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and DR CBD Rx is one of the few brands on the market to be produced with guaranteed 0% THC.
Here, the pharmacist and creator behind DR CBD Rx, Tom Chapman explains more about the two different elements.
“Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are compounds that are extracted from the cannabis plant.
“Both compounds can have a positive effect on your health and well-being. They react with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which has a role in regulating sleep, mood, fertility, appetite and memory. They both also interact with neurotransmitters in the brain that regulate pain, stress and immune functions.
“At a chemical level, THC and CBD have the same elements, meaning they react with your body very similarly. The difference comes from the way the molecules are arranged and that’s why THC also gives you a feeling of ‘euphoria’ or a ‘high’ that many people associate with taking marijuana.
“Marijuana and THC are both controlled substances in the UK, but CBD is legal. To stay within the legal limits specified by governing bodies, CBD products need to contain 0.2 % THC or less, with tighter laws being introduced soon to ensure manufacturers include 0% THC in their products.
“CBD can be used to treat pain, skin conditions, nausea, seizures, anxiety and depression, migraines, inflammation, low libido, sleep disorders and symptoms of the menopause. THC has similar properties but could also treat glaucoma, low appetite and muscle spasticity if it were allowed.
“In most people, CBD has little or no side effects and it would be extremely hard to overdose on it. THC can cause coordination problems, increased heart rate, memory loss and slow reaction times.”
